According to the LA Times scientists are trying to measure how much of a science it actually is. Researchers at Stony Brook University did a study with 10 women and 7 men who had recently fallen in love (in the past 17 months to be exact). Brain scans showed that when the people were shown pictures of the object of their affection, they had a similar reaction to that of someone who was on cocaine.
Crazy right?
The study went on to say that it was the reward and motivational part of the brain that was flooded with dopamine, a chemical released when a person is doing something pleasurable. This release explains the annoying things that new couples do.
