Trouble at the Olympic Games
So so sad.
Olympian Nodar Kumaritashvili of the country of Georgia was killed today on a practice run on the men's luge track. He reportedly lost control of his sled, after reaching speeds of 89.4 miles per hour (his fastest ever) and crashed into an unpadded steel pole.
Paramedics were unable to revive the 21 year old luger and he died shortly after at a nearby hospital.
His teammates will still compete, but have all dedicated their performances to their fallen teammate who gave his life to the sport.
