Being A Convert vs. Not Being A Convert (or Is Everyone A Convert?)

We've been writing an advice column for the Deseret News / Mormon Times for the past few weeks and recently we've been getting a lot of questions from readers about being a convert to a religion vs. being born and raised in that religion. 

It's interesting, the comments range from:

 A. I wish I were a convert, because then, I would have a real testimony, not just something that was forced on me 

 B. Why didn't I have the chance to know about this church when I was young, it would have made life so much easier having clear direction. Does God not love me as much?

 C. I love the church I go to now, but I wish I joined later in life so I could sow my wild oats and then settle down and live a clean/virtuous life.  

Pretty wide range. We paraphrased obviously, but you get the gist. We have our own opinions about each of these sentiments but...

 What are your thoughts? How would you respond?

We have no idea. Making to do lists isn't working. Neither is watching Hulu.com.

Brava vs. Bravo

Dear Yoguees/Everyone,

We wish we could find the interview where Wentworth Miller says "Brava" to Ellen Degeneres instead of Bravo, but we just aren't sure where it would be. But basically she says something to him and he says in a very slow pretentious way "Brava". Actually he says it twice "Brava, Brava"

ANDDDD it sounds so annoying! Just say "Bravo", most people don't speak Italian and won't judge you for not having gender agreement. Trust me it's not worth it. So you have two options:

1. Say Bravo - and have people be like "wow I did a really good job with this thing, or else maybe this person is being sarcastic but actually I don't care cause I already forgot what was happening"

or

2. Say Brava - and have people think "what is Brava?" "why are you saying it like that?" "Did you say Bra? or lava?" "I don't get it" "what do you mean?" "why are you talking with that voice?" "why are you mentioning to me that you went to Princeton?" "Why are you wearing a blazer in our government class?" The list goes on.

There's no need to say Brava. Ever.

Lone Survivor Revisited

We did a really bad job with the last post, but we've just been having so many thoughts about Navy Seals recently. According to this book and to everything we've ever heard said about Navy Seals, they are highly trained individuals with unmatched courage, strength, dedication etc etc...and basically...we just don't want anymore of them to die, ever.

Is that so ridiculous?

We're not trying to say anything negative about their choice of career or anything, but the lives of Michael Murphy, Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz and many other servicemen and women who have died during the course of this decade long war, are valuable lives, really valuable, and we just wish that things could be different.

How can things be different?

Even if you don't have an immediate answer for the above question, if you are religious at all, just be mindful of the troops in your prayers, ask God to watch over them and to do what he can for their families.

Hello From Maryland!

We absolutely love when we get to do a post with this beautiful flag at the top of it. It means that we are in Maryland and that life is good!

Our younger sister got married this weekend and the festivities were excellent. We will never bore you with the details, but all in all it was a great time. The Wyntour family home is perfect for weddings and we cannot wait for the next one!

"I Don't Agree With Anything You Have To Say About Anything" - Gwen Wyntour

Vogue Italy Creates a Black And Curvy Section; Essence Magazines Flips Out

We were looking at pictures on The Satorialist's website (aka hipster.com aka not really but we wonder if there is a hipster.com -- we just checked and there is but it's not what it should be...)

Anyway, we just found out the fashion magazine Vogue has a curvy and a black section. Being both curvy and black and semi-proficient in Italian, it has become our new life's ambition to be on the cover of either one of these magazines. See ya later grad school, we've got bigger fish to fry! (W.P.J)

ps. We don't know if Essence is mad but seeing as they kind of had the monopoly on the market, and actually since this is an Italian magazine they still do so "it's all good... nothin' wrong with that stuff" (name that quote).

Wyntour Speaks Out: "If I Get A Cold Sore, I'm Going To Kill Someone/Myself"

This is obviously not a picture of our face, but we've decided that this is probably the most disgusting thing that we have ever seen.

But Gwen, Where is this cold sore fear coming from?


Yesterday morning we woke up with a tingling on our lips, we didn't think very much of it, (the air is very dry out here, we are used to humid climates so our skin is always being weird)

This morning...the same tingly feeling PLUS our lips are looking a little swollen. (that's what she said)


Anyway, no, we won't tolerate the HSV-1 virus making itself manifest on our face.

In the life threatening event that we do have a cold sore, what's the best remedy? Short of cutting off our lips and ultimately our head?

New Best Show: Ultimate Hippo

We can only spend 6 minutes on the elliptical before we feel like we're going to die from being so bored, but yesterday THE MOST AMAZING THING HAPPENED.

At 5 minutes and 32 seconds, we were flipping through the channels and we found the show "Ultimate Hippo".

This is a documentary style show about how Hippos are the scariest/greatest animals in the world. This particular episode featured the power of a Hippos jaw. When the show ended we checked the elliptical timer: 43:13.
